The Museum is located inside the campus of BHU,which is among the oldest educational institutes of India, founded by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.Bharat Kala Parishad was established in 1920 AD and became the propriety of BHU in 1950, when the collection was transferred to University campus and the present building was inaugurated on 31st Jan. 1962. It has a rare collection of precious artifacts, number of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures, pictures, manuscripts, Mughal miniatures, paintings, brocade textiles, contemporary art form & bronze statues from 1st-15th century, which are of great archaeological importance.Other objects of visitor s interest are pottery, mental craft, ivory goods, jewellery, terracotta beads & rare collection of Gujarati, Rajasthani & Pahari miniature paintings.Museum displays India s heritage and preserves the past. It has different sections in the form of gallaries, Mahamana Malviya Gallary, Nicholas Roerich Gallary, Chhavi Gallery, Sculpture Gallery, Nidhi Gallery, Archaeological Gallery, and Decorative Art Gallery. Museum is small but well maintained and gives an overview of ancient city of Varanasi. Total holdings of Bharat Kala Bhawan are 1,04,376.
